Sliding Ice

There are not very many places on each where you walk under a glacier. This is one of many which are sliding to their demise, slowly grinding it's way to the ocean. The ground inside is being pulverized and turned info fine grains sand from the massive weight of the ice.

Some of these glaciers are moving several feet per day and melting at rates never seen in recorded history. While beautiful to look at the photograph, their disappearance is rapidly approaching and the geographical changes are just beginning at an exponential rate.

Superb Tranquility

There are not many places where you can truly gaze your eyes over the horizon and say to yourself you have reacyed a point of nirvana, the spot never seen yet finally discovered. The peace and warmth which traverses your body, knowing at this moment you may never again witness such beauty or feel such inner-gratifaction.

Take in those moments and enjoy life, don't let these times leave your senses unacknowledged.

Desert Lightning

Wow, excitement when you least expect it.

The next time you're in the desert and there are a few clouds in the sky with rain in the distance, don't dismiss what might happen. It's a somewhat rare event to capture a rainbow and lightning together, but when it's this close, it can not only be frightening, but also deafening.

Amazing, beautiful light in a scene rarely seen let-alone captured.

Chilly Days

It's that time of year again and the chilly days are everywhere, albeit a little late, but still cold to the bone.

Nothing like a beautiful set of mountains with the beginnings of snow to tell us what's on the way. Snowfall provides a welcome change of season many of us look forward to. Even though some of us are Grizzly bears and like to hibernate during the cold season, the remainder of us are Polar bears and love the snowy weather.

Enjoy the winter season of 2017, keep warm, and plow the snow!

Incredible Volcano

The incredible amount of power a volcano can push into the atmosphere is amazing.  Thousands of tons of matter, some thrown miles into the air, then blown around the world by the trade-winds.  The lightning from these eruptions creates dazzling light displays not often seen on rainy days.

Quack

Must be that time of year, Spring, you know, when all the babies arrive - at least in nature as we know it.  Plenty of little ones are ready to take flight.  Peering out from their wooded hole, this pair of ducklings scope the large world as they see it.

For a view of my artistic side be sure to visit www.TPetersonPhotography.com.

Thanks for the visit.

Tunnel Vision

From a knee-deep posture the view of the calm waters and burning skies makes this scene a wonderful calming place.  The placid water reflects wonderfully with the skies above to yield a type of tunnel effect as the land meets the sky in the far horizon.

Time to lay back in the hammock, crack open a refreshing drink and relax until the Sun is gone.

Bird Lovers

Any bird lovers out there? There are so many shots of beautiful birds and there are so many species, the only real way to see more than the norm are to view them in books or Web sites.

To view wonderful scenes induces serenity and peace.

As always, thank you for viewing and for your comments.

Shocking

When it comes down to what Nature can deliver, you've likely never felt the full fury of Her force until you've experienced lightning up-close. Have you ever stood outside only to have a large lightning bolt strike a tree or building merely twenty feet away from you? Try photographing in the middle of storms when the electricity is close and you can feel and see the hairs stand on your body.

Lightning is almost an abstract subject, and when you're looking to see abstract art, check the following Web site, interesting abstraction from the norm.

Watch out for those electrifying days, stay indoors and be safe.

Thank you as always for viewing and leaving comments.

Change

As with everything, change is inevitable. Luckily some of the changes which occur in the fall are beautiful for all to see.  Here in the Catoctin Mountains the trees begin their normal cycle of color change and then leaf-loss.

Sometimes you need to travel a distance to experience the glorious views for vistas such as this and with every season comes different scenes.  The rolling hills and clouds add extra flare to the already fiery-looking vegetation.

Speaking of colors, have you see the brilliant colors Yellowstone brings throughout the year.  Check out the link for fantastic colors throughout.

As always, thank you for your comments and have a wonderful day.

Rushing Stream

The next time you find yourself next to a stream, take a few minutes to pause, watch, and listen to the water rustling by. Water is the most precious resource we have and before you know we may go without. Seeing small streams like this are a pleasure and provide life.

If you enjoy looking at mountain streams or just peering into the mountains, take a look at THIS Web site, beautiful pictures to enjoy.

As always, have a great day and thank you for your comments.

Crystal Clear Drink

If it's a crystal clear drink of water you wanted you can't go wrong here.  Take a sip of this glacial water runoff from Patagonia Argentina; it'll be cold but probably the best tasting drink you've ever had.

The scene might look cold, but the runoff is is moving quickly and the glaciers are shrinking, if you're ever going to get a drink you'd probably better do it soon.

It's likely a fact you will never have a drink of water as old as this melt.  Granted all water on earth is likely close to the same age, but this water was locked up for a good long time.

Sunset Superb

Just when you think you've seen all the sunsets, well, you haven't.  This shot captures you breath and your imagination.  The high winds create the wonderful trailing cloud shapes as they travel over the water.

Can you image sitting in this spot watching the sky as the sun sets over the horizon? A wish to be there spot.

Hallstatt Lake

Hallstatt Lake and village in Austria, on the western shore in the mountainous Salzkammergut region. It features many alpine houses from the 16th century, just like you think they should be.

Lake Moraine

One of the most recognizable places in the world, Lake Moraine in Alberta Canada.  This picturesque shot is one of the most common photos available anywhere along side Mesa Arch in Canyonlands. There are many artist depictions of this lake and rarely are there bad shots.  What I look for most often are the changes in the snow and the waterline, they are two of the most differentiating factors.

Take a look at the additional two photos below to see the differences over time.

Have a great day

Eagle Flight

After the fields are cleared, after the first rains have fallen, and the new grass is growing, the beautiful swaying fields move with the wind like waves in the ocean.  For miles on end the land is fresh and the clouds are brewing - the settings are ripe for a soaring eagle to find a meal.

Super Utah Sky

Been to Utah lately?  The skies over Utah's mountains can be a beautiful sight.  Here, as the sun sets, the clouds rustle in the sky with a formidable ambiance.  Traveling through these mountains slowly allows you to see all there is around, take the time to see and research before you travel, you never know about those little worthwhile spots as you're driving past.

Sunrise Lake

A sunrise at this lake is beyond expectations.  Smooth waters, beautiful colors, wonderful reflections, and awesome skies - what more could you ask for when you're sitting at a table and sipping a cup of coffee watching the sun crest the hills to the east.

It may not be often we can view these landscapes, but at least there are those who have the ability to snap a shot at the moment.

Rugged Mountains

The ruggedness of these mountains takes the breath away.  While the water will freeze you so will cold winter winds.  There's no stopping the imagination when you visit these amazing peaks, one becomes lost in the wonder of the land.

All the photos on this site can be shared, printed, and used in any way you want, they're all creative commons.

Play on Light

The play on light can often do a better job than words.  You have to either get up very early in the morning or wait for the right evening sky to catch this.  Think if the photo were taken from a few meters in another direction - so many factors have to be in play to get it just right.  There are only a few of those once in-a-lifetime shots available, it's a good thing there are now so many cameras capturing them.

Smelly

The power of flowers and smell.  How often are you going to see a fox stopping in its tracks to "smell the roses".  Granted many mammals have a great sense of smell, but for a wild mammal to stop, close its eyes and take a whiff is one of those unheard-of moments.

I can't say I've ever seen an animal of any kind enjoy the fragrance of a flower the way this fox is.

Sunflower

Speaks for itself, the essence, meaning, lifeblood, and spirit - SUNFLOWER.  If the rays of sunlight weren't showing from behind the primary flower it wouldn't be as powerful, but this is captured wonderfully.

All Eyes Forward

Have you ever wondered if there are eyes looking at you?  A beautiful shot of this spider leads your mind to wonder.  Notice the fine delicate hairs standing at the top of the head and those pointing inward just below the two large front-facing eyes.  Such an amazing look.  It's nice of this spider to sit and pose for this picture-perfect shot.

Color Color Color

To walk the path of wonderful color, what would you do?  Every turn of your head presents a beautifully oriented burst of explosive color providing a feast for your eye and your soul.

How can one not feel relaxed or engulfed while indulging in such decadence.  Let's simply stroll and muse, fill the soul.

Volcano

If you're close enough the ash cloud is unmistakable, the blast from this volcano spewed millions of tons of ash into the air.  Lightning strikes could be seen as the air ignited with electricity.  It's striking to believe the entire mountain-side is pulverized when it is blown with such ferocity.  We can only imagine the devastation caused from such raw power.

As always, comments are welcomed.

Scotland

Scotland - a nice exposure which yields to lull your time away. While basking in the slightly overcase skies it's nice to take in the serenity of the location.  As a person who seeks quiet, blissful moments, this scene offers peace.

Scotland offers endless scenic areas of beauty and tranquility, it's a must-see area on the map of places to go.

As always thanks for your comments.

Lake Irene

Lake Irene, such an amazing place in the Rocky Mountain National Park.  Beautiful glass-like waters on calm days, gorgeous skies, beautiful trees, and wonderful trails.  If you ever get the chance you need to visit RMNP and Lake Irene.

Here's a good Pinterest link for more views of the park; there's more places to see and visit then there is time.

If you're a lake hiker, then pre-plan your trip by viewing this site, it's a good listing of the lakes, elevations, distance, and all five regions of the park.  This is a must do when you have the time.

As always, comments are welcome.

Enjoy your day

Fortress of Solitude

When you're ready for the relaxing picnic with the family or just a soul-searching getaway, here's where you want to be, sitting next to a lake, peaceful and calm, not a worry in the world, cool and serene, a place to 'let your hair down'.

Photo opportunities like this are a great opportunity and we're lucky to have them available to us, it's wonderful when the slogan is "it's your land", I love it - to be able to stop, sometimes for many days and just soak it in.

It's nice not to have to live off the land, and we live where we can have opportunities like this, I only wish I could do these trips more often - I look forward to retirement where I can spend all the time I want just staring at the lake.

I welcome your comments.

Enjoy your day.

Deserts AZ

If you ever have the time to visit Arizona, I work across many of the Western States, you will want to visit Saguaro National Park, link here.  There's camping, hiking, and so many photo opportunities.  The early mornings and late evenings provide truly amazing photographic opportunities, especially when you have some type of line-breaks in the sky - these clouds for instance.

If you visit, you'll want to go to Manning Camp, you'll be surprised what you'll find in the 'desolate' state of Arizona.  It's quite amazing how beautiful so many species of cacti can be in the spring.  By the way, don't go in summer unless you're prepared for warmer weather, sometimes very hot - while Manning Camp is at 8000 ft it still gets warm.  The best times to visit are spring and fall, when the weather is more cool, but definitely spring for colors.

I enjoy reading comments.

Thanks and enjoy your day.

Single Solitude

If it's the rolling hills with slumber and solitude in mind then this is the place for you.  Long exposure with the clouds beginning to wisp through, the stars and moon in the sky, and the solace of a single tree in which to gaze.

It's these minor stops along the way which provide peace and quiet, moments of time to ponder and 'smell the roses'.

Enjoy the day.

Cloud Reflections

Overlooking calm, peering waters with reflections of water-laden clouds sets the tone for what could be a mildly stormy afternoon.  The clouds dog-leg over the lake as they make their way, ready to add volume to the waters.

It's these locations which provide a sense of peace, allow your mind to wonder, and let your worries melt away as you absorb the serene beauty.  Stop by sometime, pull up a chair, hook a hammock, or just lay on the ground and let time pass.

Mt. Hood

A classic shot of Mt. Hood from one of the more common photo spots.  Great windless day in order for the reflection to show so perfectly across the body of water.  From this location the mountain looks so unassuming, one wouldn't think how tremendous it actually is.

The ancient volcano stands at an elevation of 11,250 feet and is often snow-capped throughout the year.  The following link will take you to a site which updates information about Mt. Hood.  Also, THIS link will take you to the US Forest Service for Mt. Hood.

Matterhorn

Humm... looks like the Matterhorn to me, amazing photo capturing the red sky reflection off the clouds and the mountain.  It seems apparent to me the best time to capture those really great shots is very early and very late when the Sun is just at the horizon.

Fields of Wheat

Fields of Wheat, a picture called "Before The Harvest" by Richard Walker on Flickr.  The rolling hills of Wheat are amazing. This shot is from the UK in what is obviously beautiful farmlands.

The clouds wonderfully contrast the golden wheat stalks which look ready for the combines.

Please feel free to leave comments in the posts section, I'd like to know what your thoughts are.

Great West

The Great West - Monument Valley, the expanse of the West is amazing and the territory is breathtaking.  Thanks for this photo from Wolfgang Staudt on Flickr.

The bluffs are simply amazing and caught on the right days, the clouds and land mesh together to form a visual fantasy land, eye-candy to the mind - of course, "The Eye Sees What the Mind Believes".

Every time I've visited Monument Valley I'm left in awe of its vastness and beauty.  It's still rugged land which needs to continue to be preserved.

Fall Colors

Nicely shot full of fall colors.  Pulled from Flickr.  There are many great pictures on Flickr and other areas, I'm simply pulling the ones which are on Creative Commons or with permission and posting into this blog - I like to look through wonderful shots in one place.

The colorful reflections are wonderful.  Looks like a peaceful lake with crystal clear reflections.  What a great experience it must have been to be there.

All comments are appreciated and thanks for visiting.

Slot Canyon

A fantastic shot of the night-time stars from within a slot canyon.  The photographer used wonderful outlining shapes to capture the centerpiece, which are the stars themselves.

The lines and curves created from being in the slot canyon provide a terrific break from the visual norm of a starry sky.

Yosemite

A truly amazing picture of Yosemite, a night shot.  I've collected pictures for many years and saved them to admire, but now sharing them to the world is marvelous.  I remember the author stating this picture was shot at night and the light seen is the moon.  The clouds whisking over the hill carried by the winds represents the mile movement through this time-lapse photo.

Perfect Light

An amazing photo, these are far and few between.

Wonderful lighting, clouds, and rainbow in the sky - you just don't find too many of these pictures.  This was picked up from Flickr at this link.  Now and then we find wonderful photos on the Web, it's nice to be able to share them.

The photograph is available for downloading, click on the download link.

Desert Bloom

Flowers everywhere in the Nevada desserts.

Old Barn

Had any thoughts about going out to the country lately?  Check out this shot, nature has a way of taking back all things built and then showing a little wrath in the meantime.

Great place for a photo, but I wouldn't want to get caught by a lightning strike, awesome.
